In a single day, how many stops can we fit in?
Not as many as most itineraries suggest. A comfortable day is two substantial stops and lunch. You can manage three if they're close to one another and none is a big estate. What catches people out is the time spent driving from county to county. Share your list with us, and we'll mark up what fits, what would feel hurried and what would be better saved for another outing.
Will our chauffeur double as a tour guide?
Driving, looking after you and knowing how the route works in practice: that's your chauffeur's job. A qualified guide is something else, a person with real expertise in a particular collection or period. If you'd like that level of depth, it comes as a separate arrangement from the car. At the planning stage we can look into options and bring them to you, with availability and fees set by the guide.
Are you able to organise hotels along the way?
We can, with your approval. First we research a few options near where each day's driving ends and send them over, together with practical notes about parking and what time you'd need to leave the next morning. Any booking happens on your behalf, and only after you've given it the nod. The rooms, rates and availability all come from the hotel, which also does the confirming. Got your hotels sorted already? Then we plan the route around them.
Should we buy tickets for the houses before we set off?
In many cases, yes. Timed entry is now widespread, and the busiest dates get snapped up early in the season. We're happy to look into admission and show you what's available, though the prices and slots are the property's to set. Most places like the tickets to carry the visitor's name. Rules vary from site to site, so we check them against your exact dates as the itinerary takes shape.
Is it possible to alter the plan partway through the tour?
Of course, and most tours end up doing it. If a village keeps you longer than planned, the weather changes or the whole group is flagging by four, we can shuffle the order or drop a stop. The trickier things to shift on the day are timed entry slots and hotel check in windows. That's why, from the outset, we treat those as the fixed points everything else hangs on.
How early should we plan a multi day tour?
The earlier the better, within reason. That goes double for summer dates, for a particular vehicle, and for routes through popular areas where hotels and entry slots fill up fast. Short notice can still work sometimes, so it never hurts to ask. We don't assume anything is available. Every piece gets checked for your dates and confirmed to you on WhatsApp, and until then none of it counts as arranged.
