A bar or bat mitzvah usually has two distinct parts: the synagogue service, most often on a Saturday morning, and the celebration, which may follow immediately, take place on the Saturday evening after nightfall, or move to the Sunday altogether. Many observant families do not travel by car on Shabbat, which runs from sunset on Friday to nightfall on Saturday. Where that applies, no vehicle is required for the Saturday service at all, and the transport question begins with the evening celebration once Shabbat has ended.

Nightfall moves substantially through the year, from mid-afternoon in December to well after nine in June, so an evening party in summer starts considerably later than guests unfamiliar with the calendar might expect. Collection times are set against the relevant time for that date rather than a round hour, and we confirm them with the family rather than working it out ourselves.

Synagogue set-down and Sunday venues

Synagogues in north and north-west London sit on ordinary residential streets with controlled parking, and many operate security arrangements at the entrance. Vehicles are normally expected to set down and move on rather than wait at the door, and marshals may direct traffic where a large service is taking place.

Celebration venues vary enormously, from hotel ballrooms to halls and marquees. Each has its own access rules and its own view about where cars may stand. We confirm the arrangements that apply to your venue and date at the time of booking rather than assuming a previous visit still holds.
